The Jaipur Story

One vision, two looms, and an incredible journey.
Every great story has a humble beginning, ours is no different. The company you know today as Jaipur Rugs started with the vision of N.K Chaudhary (the founder) connecting people around the world with the talents of the artisans that surrounded him in India. Through the coming years two looms would turn to twenty, then two hundred and beyond due to the attention gained from the artistry and quality Jaipur has become synonymous with today. Resting on sustainability and a vertically integrated business model, Jaipur has grown to one of the world’s leading rug manufacturers. Overseeing every step in the supply chain from product conception, design, production and customer delivery, the Jaipur business model offers consistencies in quality and cost.

Design is a passion for Jaipur from its very core and spills out in bold colors, distinctive styles and fashion-forward trending. Jaipur is able to offer the best in competitive pricing in today’s market by maintaining consistencies in its vertically integrated business model.

Our endeavor combines the pursuit of profit with the spreading of kindness in a way that benefits all of our stakeholders: our consumers and their families, the artisans and their families, our employees, our suppliers, the buyers and channels we work with.

Our business is built on bedrock of values that goes back to our father and founder, Nand Kishore Chaudhary that combines kindness as our default demeanor, compassion for those around us, and the humility that everyone deserves dignity. This means that Jaipur will work with all those that stand for these values and it drives us as an organization to work with and tap into the creative capacity of those in society that are disadvantaged or rejected.

Jaipur defines success as an ongoing process of improvement, sustainability, quality and artistry. Expanding efforts in its civic and environmental principles will always be at Jaipur’s core and more importantly its future, defining Jaipur as a leader in the rug industry and a model for companies worldwide.

The visionary
“Let goodness, fairness and most importantly, love prevail in business; profits will inevitably follow.” – NK Chaudhary

Nand Kishore Chaudhary (NKC) founded the idea of Jaipur Rugs in 1978 working beside 9 artisans on two looms. He started his business on principles of dignity. Over the years his simple idea has grown into a network of 40,000 artisans across India and clientele across 40 countries of the world who subscribe to a common philosophy of responsible manufacturing.

NKC’s greatest work has been in subverting centuries old practices that shunned the poor, women and artists. He has brought dignity back to the craft of rug making.

The social impact
Tucked inside the most remote corners exist the community of artisans, who produce some of India’s finest carpets through the age-old craft of hand-weaving, a practice embarking on the verge of near extinction. With this predicament in the mind, Jaipur Rugs Foundation began as a simple dream, to make the lives behind handmade rugs have every opportunity to live and work with dignity.
Jaipur Rugs Foundation was born in 2004 as a non-profit organization. Built on the bedrocks of love and compassion, our work is to engage communities to develop their creative capacities and sustain them as a part of an entire movement of empowerment.
